Canine HydrotherapyCanine Hydrotherapy is more than just swimming. It uses the properties of heated water to aid in recovery following surgery or injury as well being beneficial for dogs with chronic mobility issues including arthritis. It is a great way to exercise elderly dogs and dogs needing to lose weight, increasing fitness while reducing pressure on their joints.
Can't I just take my dog swimming in a lake or river? We definitely recommend that you don't - at least not for rehabilitation purposes. Hydrotherapy treatment should take place in warm water. In cold water, the blood flow through some blood vessels will be restricted, making the muscles they supply work less effectively. Cold water also increases he chance of sudden cramp an discomfort.
